Tidbit Tuesday #20

So hopefully you weren’t affected by the crazy amount of issues I faced with the blog this past weekend. But I am thankful to say all quirks have been resolved!! :) PLEASE NOTE, if you have “Subscribed via Email” using the sliding tab which was previously to the left of your screen, I’ve disabled this feature, as it was extra finicky. The good news is, Google Reader is still the perfect way to get your dose of my images and crazy antics whenever I create a fresh post. :)

Song of the week: Please Don’t Go by Barcelona. Such a haunting and absolutely breathtaking song. There are some songs that just scream God and His majesty through the incredible beauty of music. This is definitely one of them.

Note to self: Visit a crazy-huge aquarium with Dylan and somehow get the staff to play this song over the loud speaker. :)

I wrote my last academic book review of all time on Sunday. Man, that feels good. Just five weeks left now!! I’m sure someday I’ll look back on this period of mindless busy-work in my life, and think, “Gosh, if only I could return to those good old days..” Or maybe I absolutely will not.

Some SUPER sweet girl employee at a Stewarts Shop in Clifton Park Sunday night told me I have really pretty eyes. I almost jumped over the cash register and hugged her. She totally made my day, despite the fact that I’ve always considered my eyes more of a murky grey than blue.

Have you ever seen the show “Who Do You Think You Are?” Seven thumbs up. Although, I’m waiting for the episode when we all find out some celebrity’s ancestors sat around watching paint dry for 100 years, or something else incredibly boring. Then again, if that were the case, I’m sure they wouldn’t air it, would they?

This past weekend, I attended one of my bride’s (and beautiful friend’s) bridal shower. It was a very sweet reminder of the beauty of this phase of life. Of anticipation and hope and the constant realization that marriage is the doing of God. The display of God. And as John Piper so eloquently explains, marriage “displays the covenant-keeping love between Christ and His people to the world in a way that no other event or institution does.” How amazing is it that we get to play a part in that? Gahhh!! AMAZING.

Oh, and speaking of this bride, whose name rhymes with Shmebekah.. ;) At the end of the shower, her and her bridesmaids lined up for a picture, and I just about passed out. How could every.single.girl in one bridal party be drop-dead gorgeous?! Oh May 21st, come quickly. ;)

So I’ve recently noticed something incredibly silly about myself. (Okay, I actually notice these things on a daily basis.) Here it is, folks: I take spam very, very personally. For whatever reason, my inbox has suffered more spamage in the past few months than ever before. And it makes me SO mad. Like, seriously Jennifer Johnson, if that’s your REAL name.. LEAVE. ME. ALONE. Please and thank you. :)

Last night, Dylan and I took our first dance lesson along with his parents for the wedding. I was soo nervous beforehand, but it ended up being super fun! We were taught the basic steps of a fox trot by this short little Italian man named Gino, who is a mix between Robin Williams, my uncle Russ, and a pirate. After three hours though, I needed a double hip replacement and some wine. Until next Monday..

And here’s a little dose of what’s coming up on Thursday!

Happy happy Tuesday!

Noël - BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kate Duffy: Senior!

According to Urban Dictionary..

kate [keyt], n. a girl’s name for the coolest person you will ever meet. [i.e., I wish I was Kate; Kate is great.]

I have to say, I kinda agree. :)

Kate is oh so much fun to photograph!! She was all about the fun props I brought along from our wedding centerpiece stash; when I told her we were headed to the dump for some pictures, she didn’t bat an eye; and when I chickened out and ran back to the car because I suddenly had the sense we would be eaten by bears in the woods, she played it totally cool.

Kate also happens to be an incredible encouragement and loyal blog reader. And I’m soo happy to be able to share some of her senior portraits with you today!!

Introducing, Kate!! Again, with the gorgeous brown eyes, gahhhh.

She was such a trooper! T’was not the warmest of days..

This girl knows how to accessorize! A Kate after my own heart. :)

Bet you’re wondering which images were taken at the dump.. How about starting right now?

Kate, you’re killing me with those dimples.

Not to mention killer hot pink nail polish!

WORK IT.

Hey Kate, maybe if you write a book someday, about.. say, looking off into the distance.. this can be the cover!!

No joke, I have ALWAYS wanted to shoot in this.. thing. Not sure how to describe it.

Ahh, isn’t it brilliant?!

Pretty girl. :)

Seriously Alyse, two headless shots in a row? You bet. LOVE ‘em.

The inside of this abandoned house was CRAZY. Caved in floors, a vintage baby carriage, wicked old e-v-e-r-y-thing. Someday, I’mma go inside! (Says the girl who is scared of bears in downtown Sharon Springs, NY..)

In LOVE with these images!

Hey Kate! After you’re done with your book, you should direct a movie and.. Yeah, I’m going to stop now.

Love you, Kate!! Happy Thursday! :)

Krista (Tyler) Mann - Alyse,

I just want to say that you take the most amazing pictures! I wish I knew this BEFORE I got married!!! Good luck in everything you do!

March 29, 2010 - 10:47 AM

Kris Milo - thank you :)

March 29, 2010 - 9:36 AM

Alyse - @ Kris Thank you so much for your kindness! :) I’m really glad you enjoy them. All of these images were shot with available light and a 5-in-1 40″ reflector by Wescott. I use the reflector pretty much solely for close ups. In terms of post processing vs. shooting, Kate’s skin is actually a gorgeous porcelain tone, so what you see is all in camera. Hope this answers your question!! :)

March 29, 2010 - 9:19 AM

Kris Milo - awesome shots! were they shot with available light only, or did you use a flash (or reflector)? Also, in some of them, her skin is almost (but not quite) over exposed … do you do that in post processing, or while you’re shooting? Ask these questions because I like your style very much and would like to get into more outdoor portrait work (most with my family shots)

:)

kelly pape - oh my goodness, these are amazing! i absolutely love the props and setting, and kate you are incredibly gorgeous!!!
