Houston Heights Wedding: Kara & Rob

“He was just Rob Shane.. He was just my friend,” Kara explained as I inquired about how their love story started. But the gentle squint of her eyes and the growing smile on her face more than hinted at how the tale would end. Or should I say, begin… Kara fell for Rob when he showed up outside the kindergarten classroom where she taught and asked her out with a handmade card and the most classic Southern accent you’ve ever heard. She fell, and she fell hard. But on this day, she fell her hardest. Because “just Rob Shane” soon became “my husband.” And by “my husband,” I mean Kara’s. Obvi. :)

Kara & Rob: I’mma just come out and say it.. I love you guys! And I’m reminded of how blessed I am to be doing what I love because of you. Thank you so much for inviting Dylan and I to join the party and capture your wedding day images. I hope you’re enjoying Cali! And I look forward to seeing you soon!

Kate Foley of Kate Foley Designs totally KILLED the floral. How intricate and beautiful is Kara’s bouquet?

The bride’s stunning Mori Lee dress might as well have been made just for her.

Working with Shanna Finucane of Shanna & Erin Wedding Artistry was a photog’s dream come true.

Everyone needs a little Taylor Swift for wedding day hair inspiration! P.S. Have you SEEN Kara’s bridesmaids?

And this bride? Absolutely breathtaking. Kara, you make my job much too easy!

Rob’s mother Yoshi is just about the most adorable mama of the groom EVER. This was her reaction to seeing her daughter-to-be for the first time. :)

Kara works as a Young Life leader, and had all of her YL girls as honorary guests to her wedding. LOVED this sweet moment of prayer pre-ceremony.

Where were these bridesmaid dresses when I was planning my own wedding? F’real..

While Kara was finishing getting dolled up, I just couldn’t resist grabbing this shot of the bridal party during the last few minutes of daylight before the ceremony. (I was always docked points in school for using so many run-on sentences. Can you tell why?) ;)

The men. Taking sharp to a whole new level.

When I walked inside Grace Bible Church for the first time, I swore I’d accidentally made my way into an Anthropologie. LOVE the aesthetic. And on a wedding day, it couldn’t look any more perfect. Did I mention this is actually our church? It was so fun shooting in it for the first time.

I always love when a bride and groom incorporate communion into their ceremony. Such meaning…

“Here she comes! I love her!” And that was just me thinking that.. The look on Rob’s face doesn’t need words. :)

Normally, I’m all about the father’s reaction as he gives his daughter away. But I just had to grab this shot of Kara’s mom. Look me straight in the eye and tell me she’s not 107% exquisite in every way! DAAANG, girl.

Rob is such a southern gentleman who so simply adores his bride. Love this moment. :)

For whatever reason, this moment seemed to bring me back to my photojournalistic roots. Love the leading lines and the way sweet little Mason is enamored by the princess in the white dress.

This is it. The real McCoy!
One of my favorites. The reception was held at the Houston Heights Fire Station. So much history and so full of character. Also, HUGE thanks to wedding coordinator Catha Duck of Events by Catha for making such a beautiful day run so seamlessly! If you’re a bride in need of a planner, Catha is your girl! :)
Kara had her grandmother’s wedding dress out on display. Such a neat idea! I said she should change into it for the latter half of her wedding day, but that might have been tricky. ;)Ashley Griffith. That girl knows how to make a cake! The cupcake version of a groom’s cake! From what I hear, Rob is quite the avid fisherman. And the first dances begin…What I love most about this image is how it appears Kara and Rob are sharing a moment all to themselves. :) These two are just too much!

As Dylan and I crossed shooting paths throughout the night, we were all, “Isn’t the band INCREDIBLE?!” “OMG, they’re playing Ke$ha!” Well Internet, they are called The Handsomes. Look them up!

And now two of Dylan’s shots to seal the deal. :Check back soon for Kara and Rob’s day after session. Can’t WAIT to grab portraits of these two!Happy Thursday!
