Houston Arboretum Engagement: Sarah & Adam

I meet with approximately 90% of my brides and grooms before they decide to book me. The other 10% I meet the day of their engagement session, or their wedding day at the obvious latest. For the latter 10%, the understandable response going into it would be, “Oh man! I hope they like me. I have to remember not to talk so fast, or tell jokes that just aren’t funny!” And then there’s always, “Are they gonna work it? Or am I gonna have to go all Mary J. Blige on them?”

Lucky for me, Sarah is a devoted blog stalker. She should have had a pretty good clue that I am completely random, have more energy than I myself know what to do with, and laugh at myself in attempts of well, being funny. Lucky for me, Sarah and Adam knew me before they even knew me. And they worked it alright! See the pictures for proof. :)

S & A – You two are so fun! Thank you for making the trek out to a location made all the more beautiful by one FAB couple. April, come quickly! XOXO!!

One of the classics. :)

Sarah’s got STY-UHL. Loved her blue dress/yellow sweater and flats combo!

So fun. :)
Adam, looking all fresh-like.
Is it too early in the post to say this is one of my favorites? :)
SARAH!! How flipping beautiful are you?! I mean, seriously..
At one point Sarah said, “I just can’t not smile.” Love it. :)
Literally everywhere we turned, there was some new beautiful trail or tree or nook. I think we shall become sweet friends, Houston Arboretum.
Love this set!
Favorite. Favorite. FAVORITE!!
Sarah, you glow. And uhh, Adam, you glow too. ;)
This girl’s engagement ring is GORGEOUS. Props to Adam, fo’real. :)
I asked them to show me some of their dancing skills. This groom didn’t disappoint!
And just a little more blingity bling.

Happy Thursday!

Tidbit Tuesday #45

It’s only Tuesday and I feel like I’ve already accomplished a strangely unusual amount of work this week. I must warn you: This sort of productivity has made me extra random this morning.

Last night, I had a legit two-way phone conversation with my cat, Oliver. I meowed, he meowed, I meowed. He told me how much he misses me and how he thinks it’s terribly unfair that Dylan is allergic to him. He also asked that Dylan surprise me with a Sully-dog a little sooner than expected. Just sayin’. ;)

Asparagus! Asparagus is my new food obsession. As a matter of fact, I’m off to get some in a few minutes so I can eat it for lunch! Ten minutes in the oven with olive oil, garlic, salt, and pepper, and you have AMAZINGNESS in the form of Junior from Veggie Tales. Who knew he tasted so good?

And speaking of food! The other day, as I went grocery shopping with Dylan (we’re old and fogey like that), I sampled my first bag of Mini Babybel Cheese. Didn’t turn me into a ‘Laughing Cow,’ but it wasn’t too shabby. Then, I found the outer red wax all over my purse, the bottom of my computer, and mashed up into my white rug. Consider this a public service announcement: It’s not worth it, people! Albeit, amusing. :)

Ever heard of Laptop Toasted Skin Syndrome? This clip has been circulating my Facebook, and for once in my life, my self-diagnosis has been proven correct! I HAVE THIS. Characterized by the bright red/blotchy skin on the front of my thighs! Sorta neat. Sorta not.

Song of the Week: Something in the Water by Brooke Fraser. This one is blowing UP right now. Just released in late August by one of my favorite artists of. all. time. It’s the perfect amount of fun and serious and silly and meaningful.

You know those nights you sleep SO good, you could swear you must have died? Last night was that night! And get this: I slept with jeans on. If you know me well, you’ll know the age-old story about me going to sleep in the clothes I plan to wear the next morning. I only do this when I have to get up ungodly early. Kind of like today.. Haters don’t hate. It’s a pretty genius idea, I think! ;)

My TV sitcom just randomly switched from English to Spanish and back again. Right during the punch-line. Oh well. Only in Tejas. :)

I’ve been having a lot of fun this past week catching up on anonymous questions sent via Formspring. Which got me to thinking, if YOU have a question, I’d love to answer it in a future post. It doesn’t have to be photo related, although I do love those kind of questions! Use the comment section or head right over to my Formspring and don’t hold back! I know you’re dying to know what my favorite color is!

Gotta cut this Tuesday short. The plan is to blog our home this coming weekend, and in order to do that, cleaning is priority numero uno. And so, I leave you with a hint of Thursday’s post. Sarah and Adam. The future Mr. and Mrs. Mowery. I had so much fun with these two for their Houston Arboretum e-sesh! :)

Happy Tuesday! And remember to send your questions my way. ;)

Growing Into It.

I staggered down Main’s ungodly steep sidewalk, high kneeing all the way so as not to trip over the uneven and crumbling slabs of concrete that lay out before me on my walk home from school.. Arching my body backward so as not to fall flat on my face. Although that part wasn’t too hard.. I was the goody two-shoes who brought home next week’s homework. My backpack was compensation enough. I was eight years old. In the second grade.

I walked through our front door, flung down my Lisa Frank folders. And binders. And pencils. And really, anything I could get with those incredibly gaudy yet somehow irresistible glitter and rainbow-clad unicorns on it. I found mom in the kitchen, preparing me an after-school snack. Oh, how I loved her for my after-school snacks. I threw myself at her. And cried. And cried. And cried. And couldn’t stop crying. I was too tall.

We sat at our kitchenette table for two. It was one of those chrome and vinyl combos. White, and peeling at the corners. I picked at the bits, and explained… “They called me Jolly Green Giant today. The kids at school..” Why was I always a foot taller than everyone else? Why was it that Sarah, the tallest third grader, was never made fun of the way I was? And why were kids so mean? I never made fun of them for being so short! Mom consoled me the best she could. Partly with brownies. Mostly by just being there. But that day stuck with me..

You see, because of my complex about my height, I’d never owned a legit pair of heels. Let me rephrase that: I was a GIRL who NEVER owned a pair of heels. And until very recently, my shoe-drobe consisted of all flats. Because although I’m now only a little over average, why would I want to make myself any taller? But then my line of work got to me. All these brides all fancy with their shoes? It was about time that my confidence grew into my height. It was about time for black leather Mary Jane pumps with wooden heels. And these are them. :)

Yes, I may be a Jolly Green Giant. But at least I’m lookin’ fly.

Kate D - I’m barely what is considered ‘tall’, and i have issues with heels. Lately though i’ve been braving-up (i bet you won’t find that in the dictionary), and wearing some cute heeled cowboy boots. and since i’m president of my class i’m working the black pumps. and everytime i think “ehhh i look too tall” I think of you.. and how you’re stinkin gorgeeeeous. and on the taller side of life. and it makes me feel good about my height. haha. and i’m not even that tallll. lol

Randi-Michelle - Um, is that chair IN YOUR HOME? Goodness you have unbelievable taste! And next time, for your shoe-addict followers, you must give the details of the shoes and provide the appropriate link like you do for all your other tidbits!

jessica - oh how commanding and beautiful you must look with those heels on! breathtaking really!! i am glad you bought a pair…and a GREAT pair at that!!

lorae - i know how momentous this is cled :) i love them. and i love you.

Amber Jacoby - Oh Alyse I am was so there! STILL am! I do not own a pair of heels but I just shot a wedding this weekend that left me aching for a pair of real adorable heels. I am still suffering from the thought of walking above everyone around me!

Heather - I too recently bought my first pair of legit heels! 2 & 3/4 in tall brown leather boots! we look beautiful up in the clouds!

Frenchie - I totally hear you ! I’ve always been tall too, even at a young age but my mom always told me this was not a reason why i should not wear heels ! And so I did ! Tall girls should wear heels if they feel like it (and so should smaller people …if they feel like it !)

Sarah - I don’t know which I like more, the shoes or the chair they are placed on! Gorgeous (to both)!

Breanna - Awww Alyse! Thats a sad story, for the record i didn’t call you a Jolly Green Giant. Secondly, your shoes are So cute!!!
