Tidbit Tuesday #113

You might hate me for this, but I must tell you… On any given day, you can hear me singing You’re a Grand Old Flag about seven times. And no, I’m not kidding. Or exaggerating.. I liken having this song stuck in my head with suffering some sort of nasty plague where your tongue swells up and your ears bleed. Oh, but George M. Cohan certainly knew what he was doing when he wrote this little diddy. I mean, it’s SO catchy! Especially the part about plankton… “Let ALL the plankton BE forgot! Keep your eye on the graaand old FLAG!” At least, that’s how I’ve always sung it… :)

Yesterday I took Sully to get some updated shots. He took them like a champ. And he also weighed in like a champ. A sumo wrestling champ… He’s now TWO pounds heavier than the LAST time we brought him. Mind you, he’s also been on a diet for the past month and a half. He eats absolutely zero human food, and barely gets any treats (We’re such mean parents, right?!), and STILL, he gains weight. Well friends with dogs, allow me to let you in on a little secret the vet told me… Dog food companies aren’t required to list caloric information on their packages. So that new food we’ve been feeding Sully so much less of? It’s actually even fattier than his old stuff! Suddenly I feel the same guilt as if I’d cheated on my own diet.. And I can’t even enjoy salmon and rice flavored kibble!

With every passing day, I can feel myself becoming more and more Texan. For instance… I used “y’all” in a sentence the other day without feeling too unusual! There’s also a giant pair of leafy green boots – we’re talking eight feet tall – right outside of Dylan’s work building. And every time I drive past it, I can’t help but smile. To complete my metamorphosis, I’ll finally be experiencing the Houston Rodeo this Friday. Where apparently, kids wrestle down little baby pigs for scholarship money. If you’re a Texan, this won’t phase you. But let me assure all you other readers out there, it’s ODD… ;)

Song of the Week: You’re a Grand Old Flag by George M. Cohan. JUST kidding! Try Glad You Came by The Wanted instead… I don’t have to tell you where I heard it first, because if you know anything about me by now, you’ll already know that answer. Cough, cough, *Glee*. BUT, do yourself a favor and check out this song. It will have you busting moves in your office in no time. And maybe even performing a little a cappella.

Kaley and I shot a wedding this past weekend that is going to rock your blog world. Lindsey and Connor put SO much thought and detail and beauty into their big day, and our cameras were on the receiving end, for sure! The Humphrey’s Ashton Villa, Galveston wedding is slotted to hit the blog this Friday!!

Happy Tuesday!!

April Islip - We have to watch Frank’s weight since Pugs gain so easily. We used Purina One Healthy formula, he loves it and his weight is perfect. My family has learned that the best foods for your pet are ones where the first ingredient is a real meat. Good Luck!

jae - what brand of food does sully eat? my sister’s pup is on the thinner side, and we’re trying to find something to fatten her up a tiny bit. PS: under the veil shot? = looove it

Alden Hotel Wedding: Tammy & Evan

You know it was a good wedding when all you can do while culling images is smile like a fool. This is what Tammy and Evan’s wedding was for me. An absolute joy.. There is something so totally unique about the way they hold each other. About the way they look at each other… And I promise you, that is not just some fluffy sentiment. It’s 175% true. I can’t tell you how many times Dylan and I exchanged a “Gah, they just look so darn happy!” or a “LOOK AT THEM!” For real.. T & E, you took the cuteness CAKE. We are both so thankful for the opportunity to document such an enormously special day. And we hope you love this little peek into last Saturday as you sip on cocktails and toast to your love in Cancun! XOXO!!

I adored the simple elegance of Tammy’s Maggie Sottero gown. And of course, those shoes! Who couldn’t love those shoes?!
Tammy reminds me SO much of my cousin. Her eyes, voice, and sweet demeanor. It’s uncanny. And it made me instantly love her more. ;)
The Alden Hotel’s bridal suite was absolutely gorgeous for prep pictures.
Loved the flowers arranged by Tammy’s aunt. AND, yes. That bling.
Tammy and Evan decided to have a First Look. It was magical. And everyone should do it! No, really. HERE’s why!
The wedding day timeline Tammy and I drew up allowed for ample amounts of portrait time! Always a win. :) P.S. Tammy!! Beautiful.
The handsome Evan. Being all… Handsome!
One of my favorite shots of the day..
We then took to the streets!
Four thumbs up for this sweet wedding party. :)
Ceremony time!
Like I said… Happy.
Another favorite.
As cocktail hour commenced, we were able to grab these images of the reception set up. Loved the post card seating system!
Special thanks to Crave Cupcakes. Because I wanted about ten MORE after that cranberry orange experience!
The first dance. I’d say this image pretty much sums up all my feelings about Tammy and Evan. I just love it. And I love them!

Happy Friday! Leave them some blog-lovin’!!

37. Photograph one of my dear friends’ delivery of twins … CHECK!!

I first met Alicia shortly after moving to Houston. We met over Starbucks coffee and cocoa for her mentor session, and became quick friends. The year and a half since then have been spent shooting her new headshots, having Alicia and her awesome hubby Blair over for dinner (remember our griddle thief?), and cutting all of my fingers open with crawfish exoskeleton at one of the Pyne’s annual crawfish broils. It’s always a fun new experience with those Pyne’s. :)

Over lunch a few months back, Alicia asked if I’d be interested in photographing her twin babies immediately after their birth, as well as the hours leading up to and after it. She and Blair were scheduled for a C-section on February 27th, but on one early Thursday, February 9th, I found myself cruising down 45 with a new type of nervousness and excitement. Alicia’s contractions had started early. And it was time for some babies to be born!!

The following images are something very new to me. I’m not a birth photographer. Nor am I a baby photographer. But I am SO humbled and honored to have played a role in such an amazing day for Alicia and Blair. And of course, little Raylee and baby Blair too. I hope you enjoy their story…

Daddy Blair and his father-in-law, touching base before going into surgery.
It was a long wait. But so exciting.
Alicia’s grandparents, and one of the sweetest and most kind women I’ve ever met, Alicia’s momma. :)
After an hour or so, Blair came back to show us new pics of his twins!
And then made some obligatory calls concerning their weight, height, amount of hair… You know the drill. ;)
I was unable to photograph Alicia due to recovery, but was the very first to be brought back inside the NICU.
Baby feet!! Oh, I LOVE THEM.
Meet baby Blair. He’s now almost two weeks old and doing GREAT.
And baby Raylee. She has the most theatrical faces and yawns!

Yay for checking another goal off of my 101 in 1001 list! Happy Wednesday. :)
